Background

I was raised by a doctor and an engineer, which explains most of what follows. Four things have held my attention since university — three became work, and the fourth is why there are photographs on this site.

What has stayed

Healthcare

Then: A final-year project detecting brain aneurysms from medical imaging, and before that a breast cancer prediction model built on DNA micro-arrays.
Now: A semantic reasoner for drug incompatibilities at Hospital Gregorio Marañón, and health again today. It is the field I keep finding my way back to.

Teaching machines to read things

Then: Neural networks, when training one meant starting it overnight and hoping.
Now: Retrieval, embeddings and agents in production — the same problem with better tools and far less waiting.

Systems at the scale where they stop being simple

Then: A line in the list of interests this page used to end with, written by someone who had never run anything.
Now: Twenty people in one room to a public company of over a thousand, with the systems needing to stay ahead of it rather than behind.

Where it started

I spent most of my engineering years in Málaga, Spain at Universidad de Málaga, and one in Oulu, Finland at Oulun Yliopisto. What I built there:

Augmented reality project for interacting with museum exhibitions
Android app based on the Gymkhana game, using QR codes and an embedded chat
Breast cancer prediction using DNA micro-arrays and neural networks

Not everything turned into work. Music, cars, and enough travelling that it has a corner of this site to itself.
